Skin Cancer and the Plastic Surgeon
More than 500,000 new cases of skin cancer are reported each year making it the most common cancer in the United States. Some 80% of these cases appear on parts of the body such as the face, neck, or head.

If you should notice an unusual growth, contacting your plastic surgeon or dermatologist would be appropriate as both are skilled at diagnosing and treating skin cancer and skin growths. A plastic surgeon can remove the growth in a manner which offers the most pleasing appearance. This can be especially beneficial if the growth is in a highly visible area such as the face.

Reconstruction
Many effective and life saving techniques are available in treating skin cancers. However, some of these may leave a patient with unfavorable cosmetic or functional results. The results can range from a small scar to changes in facial structure and function. With this being considered, the plastic surgeon can be a key part of the treatment of skin cancer. Reconstructive techniques can often rebuild, restore and repair tissues to assist patients in regaining an acceptable appearance and function.
